A man killed his 14-year-old son after a dispute over a mobile phone repair on November 15 in Bengaluru. The father violently attacked the teenager with a cricket bat, strangled him and repeatedly struck his head against the wall until he became unconscious. The boy was rushed to hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Lokesh B Jagalasar said that there was already tension between the child and his parents regarding excessive mobile phone usage. The parents were also concerned about his irregular school attendance and his association with a ‘bad group of friends.’
The fatal confrontation was triggered by the boy’s persistent requests to have his malfunctioning mobile phone repaired. When his parents refused, the situation escalated into a heated argument, ending in the father’s fatal assault on his son.
“The assault has caused the death of the child and it was not a simple assault. Multiple injuries were found on the back of the child and head. The father who assaulted the child has been arrested and he is in police custody,” said Jagalasar. The father works as a carpenter, and the boy’s mother was present at their residence during the incident.
