The Met Gala, one of the grandest events in the world of fashion, is underway at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, United States. Often dubbed as “fashion’s biggest night out,” the event is set to raise funds for the Costume Institute. This year, the show is undoubtedly expected to attract attention from India like never before, as Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is set to make his grand debut to become the first-ever Indian male actor to walk the red carpet.

Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour continues to co-host the Met Gala with the help of an exquisite panel of co-chairs. This year’s co-chairs include music producer Pharrell Williams, actor Colman Domingo, racing legend Lewis Hamilton, and rapper A$AP Rocky. Basketball legend LeBron James is on board as an honorary chair.

The theme of the Met Gala is selected per the theme of the Costume Institute’s latest exhibition. And this year, the theme is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” inspired by Monica L. Miller’s book ‘Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.’ The dress code, on the other hand, is “Tailored To You,” which denotes that this is the first Met Gala in decades to focus exclusively on menswear.

An ensemble of celebrities — including this year’s host committee — will make grand appearances today. The host committee for this year consists of names like André 3000, Ayo Edebiri, Rashid Johnson, Spike Lee and Tonya Lewis Lee, Sha’Carri Richardson, Usher, and Kara Walker. Madonna, Stevie Wonder, Law Roach, Zendaya, Rihanna, LaKeith Stanfield, Kim Kardashian, and Yara Shahidi, among others, are expected to attend the Met Gala. Among Indian celebrities, apart from Shah Rukh Khan, Kiara Advani will also grace the event soon. Fans of acclaimed Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh will also see his debut appearance today, while Met Gala regular Priyanka Chopra is set to make her fifth appearance.
