Sensex, Nifty drop in early commerce dragged by ITC stake sale reviews

Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty dropped in early commerce on Wednesday (May 28, 2025), dragged by ITC amid stake sale reviews.

The 30-share BSE benchmark gauge Sensex declined 200.32 factors to 81,351.31 in early commerce. The NSE Nifty dipped 61.2 factors to 24,765.

From the Sensex corporations, ITC, IndusInd Bank, Nestle, Titan, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, Reliance Industries and Maruti had been among the many laggards.

ITC dropped over 3% amid reviews that British American Tobacco (BAT), the biggest shareholder in ITC Limited, is gearing as much as promote a part of its stake within the diversified conglomerate by way of the block deal route and intends to dilute its 2.3% stake this time.

Infosys, Eternal, Tata Motors, Tech Mahindra, Bharti Airtel and Tata Consultancy Services had been among the many gainers.

“BAT’s decision to sell a 2.3% stake in ITC will keep the stock subdued,” V.Ok. Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Investments Limited, mentioned.

In Asian markets, South Korea’s Kospi, Japan’s Nikkei 225 index and Shanghai’s SSE Composite index had been buying and selling within the optimistic territory whereas Hong Kong’s Hang Seng quoted decrease.

U.S. markets ended sharply increased on Tuesday (May 27, 2025). The Nasdaq Composite jumped 2.47%, the S&P 500 surged 2.05% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 1.78%.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) purchased equities price ₹348.45 crore on Tuesday (May 27, 2025), based on change knowledge.

Global oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.37% to $64.33 a barrel.

On Tuesday (May 27, 2025), the BSE Sensex dropped 624.82 factors or 0.76%, to settle at 81,551.63. The Nifty declined 174.95 factors or 0.70% to 24,826.20.
