Special prayers and masses will mark Christmas in Mysuru on Wednesday. The city has embraced the festival spirit with illumination and lighting of major churches for the occasion.

St. Philomena’s Church, which is also a tourist and heritage spot, expects a rise in footfall as the devout and tourists will stop by to view the church and take part in the prayers.

The church is the cynosure of all eyes as a large rangoli depicting the image of Jesus Christ, has been drawn by artist Punith, on its grounds. Apart from the midnight mass, there will be other special services throughout the day offering a place for reflection for the devout, besides making it an occasion for a social gathering.

The church authorities said that they will host a special programme on December 29 to mark 2025 years of the birth of Jesus Christ. The details of this will be announced in due course.

Other major churches in the city including Wesley Cathedral near the suburban bus stand, St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral, Hardwicke Church, Infant Jesus Church, and more are also decked up for the celebrations to be held throughout Wednesday.

Keeping up with the festival spirit, many malls and shops in the city have also witnessed an increase in footfall as people tend to shop for Christmas gifts and goodies. Many local shops and business establishments are complete illuminations and decorations like dolls, cutouts of Santa Claus, the customary Christmas star, candles, etc. adding to the festive atmosphere in the city.
