Netanyahu planning to visit Trump at White House to negotiate 17% tariff: Report – The Times of India

Netanyahu may visit Trump on Monday to negotiate 17 per cent tariff.

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may become the first foreign leader to visit President Donald Trump in person to negotiate on Trump’s tariffs. According to reports, Netanyahu is planning to visit Monday and the two leaders would also discuss the Iran nuclear crisis and Gaza.
Axios reported that Netanyahu would have to ask the judges in his corruption trial to cancel planned hearings as he was expected to continue his testimony. The report added that the plan to meet Trump could still changbecause of Netanyahu’s scheduled appearance in a hearing.
Trump announced reciprocatory tariffs to almost 60 countries Wednesday in a major shakeup of the global economic order as the tariffs spooked the markets and Wall Street witnessed a bloodbath. China announced a counter-tariff of 34 per cent on the US which Trump said was a wrong and panicked move on the part of China. Trump said Vietnam expressed interest in cutting their tariffs down to zero.
“Just had a very productive call with To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, who told me that Vietnam wants to cut their tariffs down to zero if they are able to make an agreement with the US. I thanked him on behalf of our country, and said I look forward to a meeting in the near future,” Trump posted. US imposed a 46 per cent tariff on Vietnam.
Israel tried to avoid the tariffs by announcing that it would lift all tariffs on US products. But Trump announced a 17 per cent tariff on Isreal.
Axios reported that Trump called Netanyahu and Hungary Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Thursday while the Israeli prime minister was visiting Budapest. The call was prompted by Hungary’s decision to withdraw from the International Criminal Court (ICC), but Netanyahu also raised the newly announced tariffs. Trump suggested Netanyahu come to the White House to discuss the matter but did not give any date. However, he announced in front of reporters that Netanyahu would be visiting Washington soon, “maybe even next week.”
“Netanyahu and his team were surprised by that remark, as were some of Trump’s aides,” the report said.
