The New Orleans terror suspect was identified as 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar, the FBI confirmed hours after the attacker ploughed into a New Year crowd celebrating in New Orleans’ Bourbon street killing1 0 and injured at least 35. Weapons and a potential IED were located in the subject’s vehicle, the FBI said confirming that the truck had an IS flag. “The subject has been identified as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a US citizen from Texas. He was driving a Ford pickup truck, which appears to have been rented, and we are working to confirm how the subject came into possession of the vehicle. An ISIS flag was located in the vehicle, and the FBI is working to determine the subject’s potential associations and affiliations with terrorist organizations,” the FBI said in a statement.
Law enforcement recovered a handgun and an AR-style rifle from the driver.
Texas truck used in New Orleans attack
The truck that Samsud Din Jabbar used for the killing had a Texas license plate and reportedly it crossed the southern border last month. Two federal law enforcement sources who were not authorized to speak publicly said the pickup truck used in the attack was tracked crossing the southern border into the U.S. at Eagle Pass, Texas, on November 16th. The identification of the driver who crossed the border does not appear to be the shooter, the sources told Fox News. It has not been confirmed that the attacker was driving the vehicle when it crossed the border.
Jabbar drove an EV pickup truck with a black Islamic caliphate flag on the back.
Shamsud Din Jabbar intentionally ran over the crowd breaking the police barricade. Then he reportedly jumped out of the vehicle and opened fire on police triggering a brief shootout which ended with the suspect dead at the scene, authorities confirmed. Police say 35 people have been transported to five hospitals across the city after suffering injuries from the attack.
President Biden said in a statement his law enforcement and national security teams are feeding him with updates on the Bourbon Street attack as an investigation continues. “The FBI is taking the lead in the investigation and is investigating this incident as an act of terrorism. I am grateful for the brave and swift response of local law enforcement in preventing even greater death and injury,” Biden said. “I have directed my team to ensure every resource is available as federal, state, and local law enforcement work assiduously to get to the bottom of what happened as quickly as possible and to ensure that there is no remaining threat of any kind.”

President-elect Trump called the Bourbon Street attack an ‘act of pure evil’. “The crime rate in our country is at a level that nobody has ever seen before. Our hearts are with all of the innocent victims and their loved ones, including the brave officers of the New Orleans Police Department. The Trump Administration will fully support the City of New Orleans as they investigate and recover from this act of pure evil!”
