Now, recruiters seek management students adept at handling tech, AI  -OxBig News Network

Educational institutions have to keep up with new trends every placement season. This year, while most management institutions are seeing fairly good placements, the skill requirements of companies are on the rise. This time around, recruiters are actively seeking students who have knowledge of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and technology.

Changing expectations

“The placements are slightly better than last year. Nevertheless, we have had around 92% placements for management this year. The expectations of recruiting companies have changed as they want students to have a know-how of things like Generative AI, and other basic technological skills,” said Preethi Bhandari, Head of Corporate Relations, Jain Group of Institutions (JGI).

Some institutions said that while all companies do not have such requirements, IT and other companies whose core is technology, mandate them.

“We have observed that IT companies usually want even management graduates to have a fair idea of technology for recruitment. In general, keeping in mind the current state of the market and downsizing in companies, there are many challenges in placements this year. We are also seeing that companies are not visiting on the specified dates, or some are not recruiting as promised,” said Shobha. D.V., placement coordinator, St. Joseph’s Institute of Management.

With the rising dominance of technology in every sector, some institutions say that they had begun training students of all courses in such subjects over the last two years.

“We were ahead of the curve, and we trained our students across the management spectrum in subjects like data management, big data and others. We are seeing a very good placement season and a lot of companies which were previously looking at hiring from Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) are looking at institutions like ours where the gestation period and the time it takes for students to start working is usually shorter,” said Monisha Aluvilla, who heads the office of placements and career guidance for management studies at Christ University.

More than 640 offers at IIMB

Meanwhile, the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) said that despite it being a tough year globally, a record of more than 640 offers have been received by 580 students from marquee companies while 23 more students are in the placement process.
