‘Our lives are valuable, have some shame,’ says MP Engineer Rashid in Parliament-OxBig News Network

Jailed Baramulla Lok Sabha MP Rashid Engineer on Tuesday attended Parliament and raised the issue of deaths of two civilians in Jammu and Kashmir last week, alleging that they were killed by security personnel.

Saying that a civilian, Waseem Ahmad Mir, was allegedly killed by security personnel last week, he sought an investigation into the matter.

He also referred to the killing of another individual, Makhan Din, a resident of Jammu, alleging that he, too, was killed by security personnel.

“Our lives are valuable, have some shame,” Rashid said.

He also sought a tunnel in Kupwara to connect some remote villages.

Rashid, who had defeated the current Chief Minister of J&K Omar Abdullah by more than two lakh votes in last year’s Lok Sabha elections, while being jailed in connection with a terror funding case, was given a two-day parole to attend Parliament.

He is also slated to attend Lok Sabha on February 13.

He is not allowed to meet or interact with any personnel or media during his parole period and is only allowed to participate in Parliament proceedings.

Rashid was brought to Parliament under police protection.

Waseem Ahmad Mir, a civilian, was shot dead by the Army in north Kashmir’s Baramulla last week after he allegedly sped away from a checkpoint on February 5.

An official identified the victim as Waseem Ahmad Mir, a resident of Baramulla’s Sopore.

The Army, later in a statement, said, “On February 5, 2025, based on a specific Intelligence input about the movement of terrorists, a mobile vehicle check post was established by security forces. One speeding, suspicious civil truck was spotted. When challenged, the truck driver didn’t stop despite repeated warnings. Instead, he accelerated further while crossing the check post.”

In Jammu’s Kathua, a civilian, who was allegedly tortured in police custody, was found dead on February 6.

According to some local people, Makhan Din, 25, from Billawar, was allegedly beaten up and tortured in police custody over having links with militants.
