More than 50 social media posts linked to the ongoing controversy over the 400-acre Kancha Gachibowli land were deleted by those who posted after being identified as ‘fake and misleading’ by the Telangana government.
The posts, shared primarily between March 31 and April 3, were flagged for spreading misinformation and stirring public sentiment against the government’s proposed plans for the land.
Several of the deleted posts originated from accounts associated with the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), including “KCR Adda”, “BRS Telangana Sainyam”, and verified handles of party members like Pavani Goud and Harish Reddy. Interestingly, the list also included the official X account of Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, making it one of the few verified government-linked handles to be featured.
These posts often used hashtags like #SaveHCUBioDiversity and #SaveKanchaGachibowli, accompanied by emotive language and memes accusing the Congress government of environmental destruction and real estate-driven motives. The deleted posts included a wide mix of visuals, text-based conversations and re-shared content from parody accounts and influencers.
Earlier, the Gachibowli police under the Cyberabad commissionerate registered four cases against the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) IT cell for allegedly circulating fake videos claiming wildlife was under threat on the University of Hyderabad (UoH) campus.
“Investigations into these and other similar cases are under way. We are registering cases based on specific complaints. Each will be examined individually, and legal action will follow after verifying the intention and context behind the shared content,” said Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty.
The identification and tracking of the posts are a part of the broader effort by the State government to counter attempts to fuel unrest.
