Pet pitbull kills infant in US, mother says will never understand why

A seven-month-old infant was killed by one of her family’s three pit bulls in US’s Ohio, according to her parents. The mother of the baby, Elizah, posted photos of her daughter cuddling with the dogs on Facebook wrote, “I will never understand why!”

Police said Eliza was bitten by one of the family’s dogs and that the situation escalated quickly. It was unclear which of the family’s three pitbulls bit the infant, The New York Post reported.

It is not known what the exact circumstances were that led to the incident.

Mackenzie Copley, the victim’s mother, said she was “lost and broken” about her daughter’s shocking demise. “This was the same dog who was side by side with my baby every single day,” she said.

Eliza’s father, Kameron Turner, expressed his grief and said that “life was not so fair”. “How can I continue living without her,” he said.

“Elizah’s face would light up the room and her laugh was contagious,” her obituary read.

Franklin County Animal Control took the three dogs following the incident and will decide what happened to them after an investigation, according to The New York Post.

Calling it a tragic incident, Columbus Police Sergeant James Fuqua said, “There is really not a lot of words I can say to convey how I feel.”
