NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a two-day visit to the United States starting February 12, where he will hold wide-ranging discussions with US President Donald Trump, sources familiar with the matter confirmed on Monday, reported PTI.
This will be Modi’s first bilateral visit to Washington since Trump secured a second term in the White House. His early visit underscores the strategic importance of Indo-US ties, as he will be among the first foreign leaders to meet Trump in person following the new administration’s inauguration.
PM Modi’s US trip will come immediately after his two-day visit to France, where he will attend the AI Action Summit on February 10-11 at the Grand Palais. The summit, hosted by the French government, will bring together global leaders, business executives, academics, and civil society members to discuss advancements and regulations in artificial intelligence, according to a statement from the Élysée Palace.
While official details of PM Modi’s US visit remain undisclosed, discussions are expected to focus on trade, defense cooperation, and regional security, particularly in the Indo-Pacific.
Trump was officially sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on January 20. Following his inauguration, PM Modi spoke with him over the phone on January 27, reaffirming their commitment to a “trusted” partnership, with an emphasis on trade, energy, and defense collaboration.
India was represented at Trump’s swearing-in ceremony by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who also delivered a letter from PM Modi to the newly inaugurated US President.
