Two voluntary organisations have joined hands to provide succour to the birds and animals, which find it extremely difficult to beat the scorching summer and the heat wave conditions.
Animal Care Land of Tirupati tied up with Bengaluru-based non-governmental organisation Water for Voiceless to provide 180 large water bowls to the stray animals and birds in Tirupati.
Sixty two select volunteers were identified for the task, who were handed over the 180 water bowls for installation at various localities. TTD Trust Board member G. Bhanuprakash Reddy formally declared the project open recently and called upon every citizen to shoulder the responsibility of providing water to the animals around.
As part of the pan-India initiative, the WFV has already distributed over one lakh water bowls across the country, its public relations officer Supriya said.
As the temperature rises and availability of water decreases, the stray dogs are likely to see a change in temperament, which may give rise to instances of dog bites, Assistant Director Department of Animal Husbandry N.V. Sreekanth Babu cautioned.
Animal Care Land’s veterinary officer Yagna Valkya, animal lovers and volunteers received the bowls meant to be installed at strategic locations to quench the thirst of stray animals as well as birds.
