Rajkummar Rao has always kept his personal life relatively low-key, but every time he opens up about his wife, Patralekhaa, it’s nothing short of heartwarming. Their love story is one that feels straight out of a movie — filled with quirky beginnings, effortless camaraderie, and an enduring bond.

During his candid chat with ETimes, Rajkummar shared how Patralekhaa didn’t need to apply mehndi at their wedding because she already knew how deeply he loved her.“She didn’t need mehndi because her husband already loved her a lot,” he said with a smile, adding a touch of old-school romance to their modern-day love story.When asked how he would rate himself as a boyfriend, Rajkummar confessed, “I would say out of 10… 9 and a half and as a husband 10 and a half out of 10.” The extra half mark, he explained, made up for the moments as a boyfriend when work commitments kept him away. “Maybe giving less time… if I was at home, she would be working. That’s it,” he admitted.

Their story began in the most unexpected way — on a road trip to Pune. Both were heading for a shoot, and while Rajkummar was open to conversation, Patralekhaa kept her distance. The reason? She had recently watched his film Love Sex Aur Dhokha (LSD) and wasn’t particularly fond of his character. “She hated me in the film and thought I must be like the character .”

Despite the rocky start, fate had other plans. A casual conversation at a food court revealed that Patralekhaa had starred in a few commercials. And Rajkummar had happened to see that film and while looking at her in the ad, he happened to say to himself that what a pretty girl she is and I would like to marry her. And discovering that the girl from the ad was Patralekhaa felt nothing short of magical for him.The next three days of shooting saw sparks fly, with Rajkummar admitting he put in serious effort. “I tried a lot,” he said.Today, theirs is a relationship built on friendship, trust, and the kind of love that only grows with time.Rajkummar is now gearing up for Bhool Chuk Maaf with Wamiqa Gabbi which is slated to relase on 9th may following which he will be seen in Toaster- a film produced by Patralekhaa and also features Sanya Malhotra. He also his Malik lined up- which will be out and out commercial action film.
