Ranveer Allahbadia and Samay Raina controversy: Netizens call out double standards, ask ‘Ekta Kapoor jo karti hai kya wo sahi hai?’ |

The online community has been abuzz with heated debates following the controversy involving comedian Samay Raina and content creator Ranveer Allahbadia.
On Wednesday, Raina confirmed that he had removed all episodes of “India’s Got Latent” from his YouTube channel, days after the show landed in a controversy over a remark by influencer Allahbadia. In his first response since the controversy erupted earlier this week, Raina said he will fully cooperate with all the investigating agencies in their probe.
His statement on Twitter read, “Everything that is happening has been too much for me to handle. I have removed all ‘India’s Got Latent’ videos from my channel. My only objective was to make people laugh and have a good time. I will fully cooperate with all agencies to ensure their inquiries are concluded fairly. Thank you.”
On Tuesday, the controversial episode of the show was removed by YouTube following orders from the central government. ‘India’s Got Latent’, which started in June 2024, aired 18 episodes till date. Since the removal of the content from the handle, social media users have called out the perceived ‘double standards’ and ‘selective outrage’ over the kind of content available for streaming and viewing.
Netizens have raised questions about fairness in criticism, pointing out that similar creative liberties taken in Ekta Kapoor’s television and digital content, the Salman Khan-led ‘Bigg Boss’ reality show, among others, have not faced the same level of outrage.
“Sad reality of Indian mentality. Ekta Kapoor’s shows pack more smut than what Ranveer Allahbadia said. But is there an outrage about that? No,” read a Twitter post.

A social media user asked, “Ekta Kapoor jo karti hai kya wo sahi hai?” (Is what Ekta Kapoor does considered right?).
“Is the content of Big Boss, Splitsvilla, AltBalaji, Ullu App etc acceptable to you??? Why selectively only target Ranveer Allahabadia and Samay Raina?? Why no action on Salman Khan and Ekta Kapoor???” Asked another.
Reacting to reports of the police stopping at Ranveer and Samay’s residence, one netizen asked, “Inke ghar jane se pehle ekta kapoor ke ghar jani chahiye, ye double standard kyu law ka?”
Still another said, “Voh ekta kapoor vahin Mumbai me hee rahti hain, ranveer ne jo bola voh produce karti hain, uska kya?”

The debate has sparked widespread reactions, with social media users discussing the hypocrisy in targeting certain creators while letting others go unchecked. Some users believe that comedians and podcasters are being unfairly scrutinized, whereas mainstream entertainment producers continue to push controversial narratives without similar pushback. “Why not the same treatment for ekta Kapoor for spreading dirt. Same show years before was AIB arjun kapoor, karan johar , ranveer singh mtv wala Raghu people forgot them,” another asked.
Another added, “Mujhe toh dono hi kharab lagte hai. Full support ki ekta kapoor Mahesh bhatt karan johar Sandeep reddy wanga jese log bhi vulgarity hi spread karte hai.”

Still another said, “Voh ekta kapoor vahin mumbai me hee rahti hain, ranveer ne jo bola voh produce karti hain, uska kya ?”

Samay, known for his stand-up comedy, found himself at the centre of online scrutiny over statements made by Allahbadia, on parents and sex. The viral clip sparked widespread criticism and multiple police complaints over the content that some users deemed controversial.
