Ravindra Jadeja eyeing 300th Test wicket in Chennai Test after batting heroics

Ravindra Jadeja views India’s ongoing Test series against Bangladesh as an ideal opportunity to claim his 300th Test wicket. Having already showcased a heroic and match-saving batting performance in India’s tumultuous first innings, Jadeja is eager to replicate his form with the ball.

India’s top-order collapse on September 19 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium put the team in a difficult position, losing key batters such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill. However, it was the resilient partnership between Ravichandran Ashwin and Jadeja that revived India’s chances.

IND vs BAN 1st Test, Day 2: Highlights

“I got out today but it’s part and parcel of the game. Now we have to put up a good score on the board in the second innings. I am very happy with my bowling, the way I went through today. It’s a good opportunity to take the 300th wicket on this ground,” Jadeja told Sports 18.

Jadeja even gave an insight on how India will plan out their approach against Bangladesh for the rest of the Chennai Test.

“First we have to bat very well, we have to put somewhere around 120-150 from here on. We’ll be in a good position and then we’ll come out and bowl and try and get them out as early as possible,” Jadeja added.

Ashwin’s 113 off 133 balls, along with Jadeja’s crucial 86 off 124 balls, snatched the game from Bangladesh’s control, taking India to 339/6 by the end of Day 1. India was eventually bundled out for 376 on Day 2, a total that far exceeded what seemed possible after their early collapse.

With the ball, Jadeja continued to impress, delivering a strong 19/2 spell and helping India bowl out Bangladesh for a mere 149 runs. This performance took Jadeja’s Test wicket tally to 294, just six short of the coveted 300-wicket milestone. The all-rounder, now 35, remains optimistic about reaching the landmark during the series.

As one of India’s most reliable all-rounders, Jadeja’s form with both bat and ball has been instrumental in shifting the momentum back in favor of his team. With the series still ongoing, Jadeja is poised to achieve the milestone, which would further cement his legacy as one of India’s greatest Test players.
