Resolve differences peacefully, US tells India, Bangladesh-OxBig News Network

Two days after Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri visited Dhaka for talks with his Bangladeshi counterpart, the US has said it wants the two countries to resolve their differences amicably.

Answering queries on the India-Bangladesh developments and Misri’s visit at a conference in the US on Tuesday, State Department spokesperson Matthew Miler said, “We want to see all parties resolve their disagreements peacefully.”

In Dhaka, Misri had raised concerns over the attacks on the Hindu community and the temples in Bangladesh. At the same time, he had conveyed a desire to have a “positive, constructive and a mutually beneficial relationship” with the neighbour.

After the meeting, Misri told the media he had conveyed India’s concerns, including those related to the safety and welfare of the minorities. “We also discussed some regrettable incidents of attacks on cultural, religious and diplomatic properties,” the Foreign Secretary said.

Misri’s visit was the first formal meeting at the Foreign Secretary level after the change of guard in Bangladesh in August when Muhammad Yunus took over following the unceremonious exit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
