Russia’s Emergency Ministry said that the bodies of 17 people have been found and rescue workers are searching for the remaining people. Russia’s state news agency ‘RIA Novosti’ quoted the Emergency Ministry as saying that all the people on board the helicopter are feared dead.

It is believed that the helicopter crashed due to bad weather and poor visibility. Russia’s Emergency Ministry wrote on Telegram, “The wreckage of the missing helicopter has been found by conducting an aerial survey. It is located at an altitude of 900 meters near the place where it was last contacted.” There is no official information about the passengers or crew on board the helicopter yet.

Went missing from Kamchatka region on Saturday

Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency had earlier said in a statement that the Mi-8 helicopter took off near the Vachkazats volcano in the Kamchatka region on Saturday but did not reach the scheduled destination. It said that it believes that there were 19 passengers and three crew members on board the plane. The Mi-8 is a twin-engine helicopter built in the year 1960.
