Shikaripur police shot at an accused and arrested him as he tried to escape after allegedly attacking a policeman at Kengudde Road in Shikaripur town on Thursday.

Srinivas alias Seena, 25, was an accused in a robbery case that was reported in the Malur police station limits in Tirthahalli taluk. He also had several other criminal cases against him.

Shivamogga Superintendent of Police G.K. Mithun Kumar said, “A team of police led by sub-inspector Kumar was trying to catch the accused when he assaulted the policeman Santhosh in a bid to escape. Even after repeated warnings, he did not surrender, forcing the police officer to open fire.

The accused was taken to the government hospital in Shikaripur.
