Son arrested on charges of murdering father to claim his insurance amount in Mysuru district-OxBig News Network

The Mysuru district police have arrested a youth from Koppa village in Periyapatna taluk on charges of murdering his father as part of his plan to claim his insurance amount.

According to police, the accused Pandu allegedly killed his father Annappa, 60, by hitting him with a club on December 25, and lodged a false complaint with the Bylakuppe police station that his father died in a hit-and-run case by an unidentified vehicle near Manchadevanahalli.

However, the Bylakuppe police took up the investigation and found no sign of any vehicle accident or tyre marks at the reported place of hit-and-run. With no evidence to support Pandu’s statements and the inconsistencies in his versions, the police began interrogating him.

After sustained interrogation, Pandu, aged around 27 years, confessed to the crime. The accused, who was involved in money lending business, was aware of the life insurance policies worth lakhs of rupees in his father’s name. He is believed to have lured his father to a job opportunity in the nearby Tibetan colony and en route clubbed him to death.

Later, he disposed the body along the roadside near Manchadevanahalli and lodged a complaint with the Bylakuppe police.

Police said the accused was expecting not only the insurance amount, but also compensation for the road accident victims.

Though it is believed that the victim was insured for around ₹30 lakh, the police have found one insurance bond worth ₹10 lakh. Inquiry is still under way, said a police official familiar with the investigation.

The accused, who is cooling his heels in the jail, is one of the five children of the victim Annappa. Police said Annappa has two wives. While the accused Pandu is the second son of the three children from Annappa’s first wife, the victim has two children from the second wife.
