Sonu Nigam found himself losing his cool during a recent concert in Bengaluru. What was supposed to be a joyful performance took an unexpected turn when a fan rudely demanded that Sonu sing in Kannada. The incident, which was caught on video, quickly went viral, with the singer addressing the disrespect he felt and even connecting it to the Pahalgam terror attack.
Sonu’s deep love for Kannada and its people
Before things took a turn, Sonu Nigam made sure to let his Bengaluru audience know how much he respects Kannada culture and its people. “I have sung songs in all languages. But the best songs that I have sung in my life are Kannada songs,” he said with genuine affection. He also took the opportunity to tell the crowd how much he values the love and respect he receives from them. “Main aapke beech mein jabbhi aata hoon bohut pyaar se aata hoon. Shows toh roz karte hain humlog, lekin jab kabhi bhi Karnataka mein kahi bhi shows hote hain hum bohut izzat se aate hai kyuki aap logo nein humien apna pariwaar maan hai. (Whenever I come among you, I come with so much love. We do shows every day, but whenever we do any shows anywhere in Karnataka, we come with respect, because you have made us your family).”
Pahalgam mein jo hua hai na..
Sonu was interrupted by a fan who rudely demanded that he sing a song in Kannada. The fan’s behaviour appeared to irritate the singer, who has always been known for his professionalism. Sonu quickly addressed the incident, expressing his frustration with the fan’s demanding tone. “Mujhe accha nahi laga ki waha ek ladka jiski umar, jitni uske umar nahi hogi use pehle toh main Kannada gaane garaha hoon. (I didn’t like the boy whose age, I have been singing Kannada songs before he was born)”

Do you think fans should show more respect to artists during performances?
Sonu’s frustration was evident, and he made it clear that the fan’s rude request was crossing a line. “He was so rudely threatening me, ‘Kannada, Kannada’. Yahi kaaran hai, Pahalgam mein jo hua hai na? Yahi kaaran hai jo karrahe ho, jo kiya tha na abhi? Dekho toh kaun saamne khada hai. (This is the reason what happened in Pahalgam. This is the reason, what you did just now.)” He said, referring to the terror attack in Pahalgam.
He then continued with a heartfelt message, reminding his audience of the importance of respect and understanding. “Main itni izzat karta hoon aapki, itna pyaar karta hoon. So thoda sa rehna chahiye, aesa nahi karna chahiye aapko. (I love and respect you so much. So you shouldn’t do like this.)”
