AUS vs IND: Pat Cummins focusing on keeping ‘gamechanger’ Rishabh Pant quiet

Australia Test captain Pat Cummins has revealed that his focus is on Rishabh Pant ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Speaking to Star Sports ahead of the 5-match Test series, Cummins said that Pant was one of the players who had the ability to take the game on and that’s why Australia needed to be wary of the batter.

India play Australia in a 5-match Test series – known as the Border Gavaskar Trophy – starting November. India have won back to back series Down Under and will look to complete the hat trick. Pant was a mega part of the previous win, where he played an iconic innings at Gabba to hand India a series win in the final Test match.

“Every team has one or two of those players who take the game on. Australia have Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh. I think those guys, you know that they are going to be aggressive, take the game on. Like Rishabh Pant might play a reverse slap and it is an incredible shot and that’s just part of who he is,” Cummins said on Star Sports.

“He’s someone that has a big influence in a couple of series and we have go to try and keep him quiet,” he further added.

Rishabh Pant recently made his comeback to Test cricket after a massive 632-day gap. Pant, who had been sidelined due to a near-fatal injury in 2022 scored a century on his return against Bangladesh. Pant has been pivotal to India’s success since his comeback. The wicketkeeper-batter even played a crucial role in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 win in Barbados.

Pant is expected to be crucial to India’s success in the BGT 2024-25 and in the World Test Championship 2025 Final as well, if India manage to qualify for it. At the moment, the Rohit Sharma side lead the table with most points.
