Champions Trophy: Fans question Yashasvi Jaiswal’s omission from India squad-OxBig News Network

Fans lashed out at the Indian selectors after Yashasvi Jaiswal was left out of the Indian squad for the Champions Trophy, scheduled to take place from February 19 to March 9 in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Jaiswal recently made his debut in the first ODI against England at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur but got out for 15 after Jofra Archer accounted for his wicket.

Yashasvi didn’t get a chance in the second game at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack after Virat Kohli returned following a knee injury. It was Shubman Gill, who opened the batting with Rohit Sharma on Sunday. After being left out of the Champions Trophy squad, Jaiswal was added as one of the travelling reserves along with all-rounder Shivam Dube and fast bowler Mohammed Siraj.

In place of Jaiswal, India picked Varun Chakravarthy, who made his ODI debut in Cuttack after a splendid outing in the T20I series where he picked up 14 wickets with a five-wicket haul in Rajkot. Chakravarthy is amongst the five spin-bowling options for India, along with Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel.

Jaiswal was one of the two to have missed out, along with speedster Jasprit Bumrah, who couldn’t recover from his back injury. Fans, in the meantime, could not believe that Jaiswal, who has been stupendous for India over the last one and half years, was dropped from the team after playing only a solitary ODI.
