Dewald Brevis returns to T20I squad after two years for tri-series in Zimbabwe-OxBig News Network

Dewald Brevis has made a return to the South Africa squad after almost two years as the Proteas named a second string side for the tri-series against New Zealand and Zimbabwe. Brevis last played a T20I international in 2023 against Australia and has seen since been out of the picture for a while.

The 22-year-old was able to get his name back under the lights after his performance in the IPL for CSK after joining them as a replacement player. Brevis scored 225 runs from 6 matches at a strike-rate of 180 and was one of the brightest stars for CSK in a rather poor season. Rassie van der Dussen will be leading the team in the absence of Aiden Markram, while young talents like Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Nandre Burger have been included in the side.

This will be the first T20I assignment for Shukri Conrad, after he took over from Rob Walter as the coach in all three formats.

“Proteas Men’s head coach Shukri Conrad has named a 14-player squad for the upcoming T20 International (T20I) tri-series against hosts Zimbabwe and New Zealand, set to take place in Harare from 14 – 26 July. Rassie van der Dussen will captain the side, which features four maiden T20I call-up. They are Momentum Multiply Titans duo Corbin Bosch and Lhuan-dr Pretorius, North West Dragons batter Rubin Hermann and Dafabet Warriors spinner Senuran Muthusamy.”

“The tri-series also marks Conrad’s first T20I assignment since being appointed as the senior men’s all-format head coach. The squad will assemble for a two-day camp at the Centre of Excellence in Pretoria from 09 – 10 July under the guidance of SA A head coach Wandile Gwavu, before departing for Harare on 11 July,” read the statement from Cricket South Africa.
