The Australian summer is just a few weeks away and that will mark the start of the much-anticipated Border Gavaskar Trophy series between India and Australia. Glenn Maxwell also expressed his excitement for the blockbuster clash and said that he is eager to see Virat Kohli and Steve Smith go head-to-head against each other. Maxwell also referred to the two of them as the ‘finest players of the generation’ and felt that their performance would determine which team would take the trophy back home.
“I think probably the way that the two superstar batters, Steve Smith and Virat Kohli, probably head-to-head, seeing how their dominance I suppose is asserted on the series and how much of an influence that has on who takes home the Border Gavaskar Trophy. One of those two is going to make a lot of runs, if not both of them, and it’s going to be pretty exciting to watch the two of the finest players of our generation go head-to-head,” Glenn Maxwell told Star Sports.
The ‘super-star batters’
Smith vs Kohli again!
Smith and Kohli, who are part of the fab four, have a lot to prove in the upcoming Test season. However, the two star batters have always managed to make an impact with their performances in the feisty battle between Australia and India. In 25 Test matches, Kohli has scored 2042 against Australia at an average of 47.48 with eight hundreds. Meanwhile, Smith, in 19 Test matches against India, has scored the exact same runs at an average of 65.87 with nine hundreds.
Both the veteran batters have produced some memorable performances and given some fiery on-field verbal exchange moments over the years. With both of them being in the later stages of their Test careers, they will aim to make the most out of the biggest of the stages this Australian summer.
India and Australia will play a five-Test series for the first time since 1991-92 starting November 22 at Perth.
