ICC Test Rankings: Rishabh Pant re-enters list in 6th, Virat Kohli out of top 10

After his incredible return to the Test arena, India’s Rishabh Pant re-entered the ICC Test rankings in 6th spot after his brilliant performance in the Chennai Test against Bangladesh. The latest update on September 25, Wednesday also saw Virat Kohli drop out of the top 10 while captain Rohit Sharma slip down 5 spots.

Along with Pant, Shubman Gill, and Ravichandran Ashwin have all made significant gains in the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings after scoring centuries in the first match of their ICC World Test Championship series against Bangladesh in Chennai. Pant has climbed back into the rankings at sixth place following his scores of 39 and 109. Gill reached a career-best 14th position, rising 5 places after his unbeaten 119 in the second innings. Meanwhile, Ashwin’s crucial 113 in the first innings lifted him seven spots to 72nd.

Both Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, who combined for a vital 199-run first innings partnership to set up India’s 280-run victory, have seen improvements across multiple rankings. Jadeja’s knock of 86 has moved him up three spots to 37th in the batting rankings. Ashwin has solidified his position as the top-ranked bowler by gaining one rating point after his six-wicket haul in the second innings, while Jadeja has advanced to sixth after taking five wickets in the match.

In the all-rounder rankings, Jadeja remains at the top with a career-high 475 points, while Ashwin, in second place, added 48 points, bringing his total to 370. The other notable movement in the rankings saw Yashasvi Jaiswal break into the top 5 for the very first time to continue his incredible run in the longest format of the game.

Kohli, Rohit slip down

Kohli and Rohit didn’t have the best of times during the Chennai Test as they faced batting failures in both innings. Rohit could only get 6 and 5 while Kohli got 6 and 17 across both innings. This meant that the Indian skipper slipped down 5 places to 10th.

Kohli went down from 7th to 12th in the rankings after the latest update. Joe Root continues to be the No.1 batter in the Test rankings.
