India can field 2-3 international teams at the same time due to IPL: Dinesh Karthik-OxBig News Network

Former India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has credited the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the development of Indian cricket. The 18th season of the IPL is all set to get underway on March 22 as defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru will be seen taking on each other in the opening game.

IPL has grown by leaps and bounds ever since its inception in 2008 and has developed several top cricketers for the country. Recently, Karthik spoke about the impact of the T20 extravaganza on Indian cricket and credited the tournament for instilling a winning mentality in our players. He also mentioned how the IPL has helped to develop the cricketing infrastructure in the country, which in turn has helped several youngsters.

“The IPL has brought out a winning mentality in all our players. With the influx of money and the financial benefits that a lot of the teams receive, and in turn the stakeholders, a lot of it has been put back in infrastructure. So, when infrastructure grows, eventually the quality of sport develops as well,” Karthik was quoted as saying by ANI.

Furthermore, the former RCB player also said that India is in a privileged place due to IPL as they can now field two-three international teams at the same time.

“We can say that since the IPL has become a part of Indian cricket’s fabric, they can now field two to three teams in international cricket at the same time, and almost compete with each one of them. Right now, India is in a very privileged place where they have such a good assortment of cricketers across skill sets,” he added.

Meanwhile, having retired from all forms of Indian cricket after IPL 2024, Karthik has been appointed as batting coach and mentor for RCB in the upcoming season. The Bengaluru-based franchise will be led by a new captain in Rajat Patidar in the upcoming season as it aims to finally end their long wait for a title victory.
