India clinched a glorious feat at the Archery World Cup Stage 2 in Shanghai, with the compound men’s team leading the charge in a memorable campaign that saw the country return with three medals, including a gold, on Saturday, May 10.

The men’s compound team—comprising Abhishek Verma and Ojas Deotale, alongside youngster Rishabh Yadav—delivered a composed and clinical performance in the final. They edged past Mexico 232–228 in a thrilling encounter to claim the gold medal, underscoring India’s dominance in the compound discipline.

It was an end-to-end battle against a strong Mexican side, but the Indian trio held their nerve with precise shooting in the final ends to secure a historic victory in Shanghai.

In the women’s compound team final, India’s trio of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Madhura Dhamangaonkar, and Chikitha Taniparthi put up a spirited fight but had to settle for silver after a 221–234 loss to a superior Mexican team that dominated the contest from the outset.

Meanwhile, the Indian compound mixed team—featuring Abhishek Verma and Madhura Dhamangaonkar—bounced back strongly after missing out on the final. They secured a bronze medal by defeating Malaysia convincingly in the third-place match, adding yet another podium finish to India’s growing archery credentials.

These consistent performances are only the latest chapter in India’s rising archery narrative. At Stage 1 of the Archery World Cup in the USA, India had already bagged four medals, including a silver in the men’s recurve team event and a bronze by promising archer Dhiraj Bommadevara in the individual recurve category.

With compound archery set to make its Olympic debut in the mixed team format at the 2028 Los Angeles Games, India’s current trajectory offers genuine hope of clinching its first-ever Olympic medal in the sport.
