Chennai Super Kings came up with a clinical show to begin their Indian Premier League 2025 campaign with a comfortable win over arch-rivals Mumbai Indians in Chennai on Sunday, March 23. Led by a spin-bowling masterclass from Afghanistan’s Noor Ahmed, the Super Kings outspun a Mumbai Indians side, which looked ordinary without captain Hardik Pandya and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah.

Fifties from Rachin Ravindra (65*) and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (53) helped Chennai Super Kings complete a largely untroubled chase of 156 despite debutant Vignesh Puthur’s fine spell for Mumbai Indians.

With the four-wicket loss, Mumbai Indians’ streak of losing their first match in a season extended to the 14th season. The last time MI began their campaign on a winning note was in 2012.
