Lucknow Super Giants proved their doubters wrong in their second game of the Indian Premier League 2025. Playing in Hyderabad, LSG hammered Pat Cummins’ side by 5 wickets, clinching a clinical win on Thursday, March 27. Rishabh Pant, the captain of the injury-struck side, quoted MS Dhoni after the match and said that he was trying to follow his mentor’s lessons.

LSG came into the tournament with their entire Indian fast bowling group out due to injury. After losing their first match of the season against Delhi Capitals, not many people gave LSG any chance on Thursday. The Lucknow-based side then hit back with Nicholas Pooran (76) and Mitchell Marsh (52) to chase the target down in just 16.1 overs, giving SRH a full Hyderabad treatment at their own home. Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Pant said that he simply wanted to focus on the things that he could control and did not care about the things that were out of his hands.

“Big relief, but as a team we talk about the process. It’s not about getting too high when you win and not about getting too low when you lose. As a team, we can’t focus on uncontrollables; my mentor said focus on controllables, and that is what I did. Good to see the way Prince bowled, and also Thakur was really good,” Rishabh Pant said after the match.

Speaking on the decision to promote Pooran up the order, Pant said that the batter needed freedom in this format of the game.

“I think we just want to give him the freedom. You’ve got to give someone the charge when he is batting well, and he has batted brilliantly for us. The group is coming up nicely; we haven’t played our best so far, but happy to get a win,” Pant concluded.

LSG now have one win and one loss from 2 games. LSG will next play Punjab Kings at home on April 4.
