Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are set to face off in Match No. 58 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Saturday, May 17, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. However, there’s a significant chance of heavy rainfall, which could even lead to the match being called off.

If rain does disrupt play and the match is abandoned without a result, it will have major implications for both teams. KKR will be officially eliminated from the tournament. Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), and Rajasthan Royals (RR) have already been knocked out.

KKR are currently sixth in the points table with 11 points and a net run rate of +0.193, having won five out of their 12 matches so far.

An abandoned match would give RCB one point, taking them back to the top of the table. However, that alone won’t guarantee them a playoff spot—they still need a win to officially secure a place in the top four.

RCB are currently second with 16 points and a net run rate of +0.482, courtesy of eight wins from 11 games. While they have won all their away matches this season, they’ve managed only one victory from three games at home. RCB had beaten KKR by seven wickets in the season opener at Eden Gardens.

As for Saturday’s weather, clouds are expected throughout the match, with a 60–75 percent chance of rain and possible thunderstorms around 8 PM and 9 PM.

With seven teams still in the race for four playoff spots, the competition is heating up as the league nears its final stretch. While KKR have won the IPL three times in 2012, 2014 and 2024, RCB are yet to get their hands on the coveted trophy.
