World No.1 Jannik Sinner is set to make his comeback in the Italian Open in 2025 after serving his suspension following a failed drug test. Back in February, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) banned Sinner for three months after he tested positive for a banned substance named Clostebol.
Sinner hasn’t played any tennis after winning the Australian Open in 2025, where he defeated Alexander Zverev in the final. Sinner was earlier in danger of losing his top ATP ranking. However, he retained his spot as World No.1 after Zverev lost to Matteo Berrettini in the Monte Carlo Masters.
Sinner has got a bye in the opening round of the Italian Open. In the second round, he will face the winner of the match between wildcard entrant Federico Cina and Argentina’s Mariano Navone. Earlier, Sinner admitted that making a comeback won’t be a cakewalk for him.
“We’re training very hard. Hopefully we’ll get some momentum going again ahead of the clay season. It certainly won’t be easy for me,” Sinner told broadcaster ORF Sudtirol.
“The first games will be really difficult. But hopefully I’ll be able to get back into the rhythm, and then we’ll see how it goes,” Sinner said.
