Australian Open men’s singles champion Jannik Sinner sent an inspirational message to Alexander Zverev after beating him in the final in Melbourne on Sunday, January 26. Sinner beat Zverev in straight sets to clinch the title for the second consecutive time in a dominant performance.
Sinner and Zverev had entered the final in top form, having dropped just 2 sets throughout the tournament. However, in the final, the Italian was too good for his German counterpart and defeated him 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 to create history in Melbourne. After winning the match, Sinner was seen consoling a heartbroken Zverev just ahead of the trophy presentation.

During the ceremony, Sinner would praise Zverev and call him an incredible player on the court and tell him to keep believing in himself. The Italian said that all the players, coaches and everyone involved with the sport knows how strong Zverev is as a player and a person. Sinner told Zverev to keep working hard and claimed that he believes he can win a Grand Slam very soon.
“I would like to start with Sascha. Again, a tough day for you, your whole team and your family. You have an incredible team behind you. You’re an amazing player. Keep believing in yourself because I think we, all players and not only all the coaches, whoever is involved in the sport, knows how strong you are, not only as a player, but as a person. So keep it up, keep working hard because we all believe that, and you can lift one of these very, very soon, so wish you only the best,” said Sinner.
‘Will try to convince you to stay’
Sinner also had a special message for his coach Darren Cahill, who seems to be stepping away after the Australian Open. The Italian said he will try to convince Cahill to stay on.
“It is an amazing feeling to share this moment with all of you. It is amazing to achieve these things and to share this with you guys. Darren (Cahill), it is probably your last Australian Open as a coach. I will try to convince you (to stay) and it is an honour to share this trophy with you.”
“And Simone (Vagnozzi), you are an amazing combination of coaches. Thank you so much.”
With the win, Sinner became the youngest man since Jim Courier to win back-to-back Australian Open titles.
