Manchester United and Arsenal target Viktor Gyokeres has broken his silence amidst a reported standoff with Sporting Lisbon. Gyokeres, one of the most prolific strikers in Europe at this moment, is expected to move this summer with United and Arsenal in the race.

It was reported that Gyokeres had an agreement with Sporting to leave for a fee of 70 million euros, 30 less than his original release clause at the club. However, club president Frederico Varandas shot down those reports and claimed that they’re yet to receive an offer for the Swedish striker.

“I can guarantee that Viktor Gyokeres will not leave for 60 million euros plus 10 million euros because I never promised that,” Varandas told reporters on Wednesday. “To this day Sporting has not had an offer for Gyokeres — neither today nor last season. I said this sentence: ‘It’s not worth us setting a value because I don’t know what will happen in a year’s time.”

“I don’t know if it will be 40 million euros, 60 million euros or 80 million euros. What I can guarantee is that I will not demand 100 million euros.”

It was then reported that Gyokeres was left furious by the comments from Varandas and the striker has removed all references to Sporting from his social media. It is also being said that Gyokeres doesn’t want to play ever again for the club.

Gyokeres breaks silence

Gyokeres posted a statement on his Instagram story on Thursday, June 12, saying that a lot of the talk at the moment surrounding his future is false. The 27-year-old said that he will speak when the time is right.

Gyokeres scored 54 goals last season and has three years left on his current deal with Sporting. Ruben Amorim, the former Sporting boss, is at the helm in United and has a good bond with the striker. Arsenal have been looking to add a striker to their ranks after missing out on the Premier League title for the second season running.
