Mohammad Rizwan admitted that Pakistan’s Champions Trophy 2025 campaign is virtually over, despite a slim mathematical chance of reaching the semifinals. Currently bottom of Group A with a net run rate of -1.087, Pakistan suffered a 60-run loss to New Zealand before a six-wicket defeat to India in Dubai.
To qualify, Pakistan must win their final league match against Bangladesh on February 27 and rely on other results going their way—starting with a Bangladesh win over New Zealand on February 24 in Rawalpindi. However, Rizwan, who scored 46 off 77 balls against India, said he does not believe in depending on others for success.

“For now, we can say it’s over—that’s the truth. We have to see what Bangladesh does against New Zealand and how New Zealand performs against India, but it’s a long shot,” Rizwan said in the post-match press conference.
“Our fate is no longer in our hands. As a captain, I don’t like relying on these things. If we can win, we should do it on our own terms, without depending on others. I don’t care about other results. We accept that India and New Zealand beat us, and we didn’t play well,” Rizwan added.

Batting first, Pakistan were bowled out for 241 in 49.4 overs, with Saud Shakeel top-scoring with 62. India comfortably chased the target with 45 balls to spare, powered by Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 100 off 111 balls. Despite taking two wickets, Shaheen Shah Afridi struggled, conceding runs at over nine per over.
Kohli and Shreyas Iyer’s 114-run partnership for the third wicket sealed Pakistan’s fate. With this win, India moved to the top of Group A with four points and a net run rate of +0.647. India will face New Zealand in the final group match on March 2 in Dubai.
