Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham set to miss 12 weeks after shoulder surgery-OxBig News Network

Real Madrid and England midfielder Jude Bellingham is expected to be out of action for up to 12 weeks after undergoing surgery to address a persistent shoulder injury. The Spanish club confirmed on Wednesday that the 22-year-old had a successful operation to treat a recurring dislocation in his left shoulder.

The problem dates back to November 2023, when Bellingham first sustained the injury during a La Liga clash with Rayo Vallecano. Although he returned to the pitch after missing four matches, he continued to play with heavy strapping and visible discomfort, both for club and country.

Following Real Madrid’s recent campaign at the FIFA Club World Cup-where they were knocked out in the semi-finals by Paris Saint-Germain-Bellingham made the decision to undergo surgery in order to avoid further complications.

In an official statement, the club said: “Our player Jude Bellingham has successfully undergone surgery for a recurrent dislocation of his left shoulder. The operation was performed by Drs Manuel Leyes and Andrew Wallace, under the supervision of the Real Madrid Medical Services. Bellingham now begins a period of rehabilitation prior to his return to recovery work.”

Medical assessments suggest a recovery period of between 10 and 12 weeks, meaning Bellingham will miss several early-season fixtures, including the start of the 2025/26 La Liga campaign and the initial rounds of the UEFA Champions League group stage.

His absence will also be a blow for England, ruling him out of key FIFA World Cup qualifying matches in September and October against Andorra, Serbia, and Latvia.

Real Madrid begin their domestic season on 19 August with a home fixture against Osasuna-a match Bellingham will definitely miss. The club is cautiously optimistic that he could return in time for the first El Clsico of the season, away to Barcelona on 26 October.

While the club has not specified an exact return date, Spanish media reports estimate the England international could be sidelined for two to three months. Given Bellingham’s influence in midfield, both Real Madrid and England will be keen to ensure he completes a full and proper recovery.
