India cricketer Prithvi Shaw has revealed that he received support from only Rishabh Pant during tough phase in his career. Shaw has been going through a rough period in his professional life as he was dropped from Mumbai squad for the Ranji Trophy and later went unsold in the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) mega auction.
The 25-year-old was once touted as the next Sachin Tendulkar, however, he failed to live up the expectations and was dropped from team India in 2021. Recently, the Mumbai batter revealed that only Rishabh Pant extended support to him during his tough phase.
“Rishabh Pant keeps on contacting me, whenever he feels something is wrong,” Shaw told News24.
Furthermore, Shaw also admitted that he took several wrong decisions in his life and started giving less time to cricket.
“I have taken a lot of wrong decisions in life. I started giving less time to cricket. I used to practice a lot. For example, I used to bat for 3-4 hours in nets. I never got tired of batting. I used to go to the ground for half a day. I admit that there was a distraction,” he added.
Shaw also revealed that he got into bad company, which further took his focus away from the game.
“After that, I started considering what was not necessary as necessary. I made some wrong friends. Because I was at the top at that time. Friendship is also formed. Then they took me here and there. All those things. Then I got away from the track. I used to give 8 hours of practice on the ground. Now it is 4 hours,” Shaw said.
Meanwhile, Shaw is planning to play for another team in the domestic cricket as he’s written to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) seeking a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to switch his teams ahead of the upcoming domestic season.
In a letter to the MCA, Shaw revealed that he was presented with an opportunity to play under another state association and feels it will further contribute to his growth and development as a cricketer
The 25-year-old was dropped from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy team last year with selectors citing fitness concerns. While he made a return to the squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he was then snubbed for the Vijay Hazare Trophy last season.
