Suryakumar Yadav travels to London for possible sports hernia surgery-OxBig News Network

India’s T20I captain and star batter Suryakumar Yadav has flown to London to consult a specialist regarding a sports hernia injury that has been troubling him for some time. The 34-year-old is expected to undergo further evaluation to determine whether surgery is required.

Following a demanding three-month stretch of continuous cricket—including a strong IPL 2025 campaign with Mumbai Indians and a stint in the Mumbai T20 League—Suryakumar is now using the break in India’s international calendar to focus on his recovery.

“Surya is suffering from Sports hernia on right side lower abdomen. He has gone to the UK for consultation. If required, he will be going under the knife,” a source close to the cricketer told PTI.

“With no T20 cricket before August-September, Surya thought that this is the best time where he can tend to his injury and also have enough time for recuperation at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru,” the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) source added.

Currently, the Indian Test team is in England preparing for their five-match series against England, which begins on June 20 at Headingley. However, Suryakumar is not part of the red-ball setup, giving him a rare opportunity to address his fitness without the pressure of immediate selection.

The right-hander had another prolific IPL season, racking up 700 runs for MI, and followed it up with appearances in domestic T20 fixtures.

India’s next T20I assignment is scheduled for August in Bangladesh, giving Suryakumar adequate time to recuperate. However, if surgery is deemed necessary, the recovery process could potentially delay his return to action.
