The Paris Olympics was a platform for pistol shooters to enjoy the global spotlight. After Tukey’s Yusuf Dikec became an international sensation, Korean pistol shooter Kim Yeji also enjoyed stardom as she went viral on social media for her distinctive style and incredible precision while hitting the bullseye. Now, at 32, Kim has secured an acting role. She will play the role of an assassin in a short-form series.
As Kim’s popularity continued to grow, she signed with a talent management agency in August to manage her commitments outside the shooting range. Within a month, the decision paid off, as she landed her first acting role in ‘Crush’, a spin-off series of the film ‘Asia’, according to AFP. In the series, Kim and Indian actor Anushka Sen will both portray assassins, with the cast featuring actors from several countries, including the United States.
Sporting a baseball cap and futuristic, bespoke shooting glasses, Kim Yeji was making heads turn with her performances and composed demeanour at the range. A video clip showcasing Kim’s style and skill from a shooting World Cup in Baku went viral during the Olympics. The experienced shooter made sure she continued to make headlines by winning a silver medal at the Olympics. In the women’s 10m air pistol event, Kim was narrowly beaten by her compatriot and Olympic Village roommate, Oh Ye Jin, who set an Olympic record of 243.2. India’s Manu Bhaker had won bronze in the event.
Kim’s acting role comes on the heels of a notable endorsement from billionaire Elon Musk, who suggested that she be cast in an action film, claiming, “no acting required.” Her stylish and composed demeanour, often described as “cool” and “unbothered,” has drawn comparisons to iconic characters like James Bond.
A key part of Kim’s appeal is the personal touch she brings to her competitions. During the Olympics, she was seen wearing a stuffed elephant toy, a keepsake from her young daughter, on her waist. This, along with her remarkable performance and subsequent media appearances, contributed to her breakout stardom. She even participated in a photo shoot with Louis Vuitton, the renowned French luxury fashion brand.
Kim’s shooting career began in the sixth grade, inspired by her gym teacher, and she quickly rose through the ranks. Having secured an Olympic medal, Kim will be looking to make a mark as an actor.
