Star India batter Virat Kohli was seen sledging Australian batters Marnus Labuschagne and Nathan McSweeney during Day 1 of the second Test against Australia at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide. Notably, with just 180 runs on the board, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah once again started strong for India dismissing opener Usman Khawaja for 13.

Having lost their first wicket with 24 on the board, Marnus Labuschagne walked out to bat and joined McSweeney at the crease. The right-handed batter continued to struggle against India’s premier fast bowler as he got beaten on many occasions and looked unsettled.

Virat Kohli also tried to add pressure by saying “He’s got no clue Jass! (Jasprit Bumrah),” which was caught on the stump mic.

Bumrah and Labuschagne had another face-off as the Australia star defended a delivery from the India fast bowler which was quickly collected by Bumrah as he gave him stares. Meanwhile, Labuschagne (20*) managed to conquer his demons from the Perth Test and looked a lot more comfortable at the crease in Adelaide. He forged an unbeaten 62-run stand with Nathan McSweeney (38*) as the duo took Australia to stumps without any more casualties.

Australia in dominant position on Day 1

Earlier, India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first as they made three changes in their playing XI with Rohit, Shubman Gill and Ravichandran Ashwin coming into the team. India got off to the worst possible start as Starc dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal on the very first ball of the match getting him out lbw.

After the early blow, KL Rahul (37) and Shubman Gill (31) weathered the storm by adding 69 runs for the second wicket until Starc brought Australia back in the game with quick wickets of Rahul and Virat Kohli (7). At the other end, Boland also got rid of Gill and Rohit (3) getting them both out lbw, while Pat Cummins got the big wicket of Rishabh Pant after surprising him with a short delivery.

With India on 109/6, Ravichandran Ashwin (22) played some shots until being cleaned by Starc with an in-swinging yorker who also dismissed Harshit Rana (0) in the same manner. As a result, Starc ended up picking his 15th five wicket haul of Test career. He eventually finished with figures of 6/48 in 14.1 overs after dismissing Nitish Kumar Reddy (42) as the last wicket of the innings.
