New Zealand pacer Matt Henry was left heartbroken as he missed out on playing in the final of the Champions Trophy 2025. Henry was ruled out of the game as he failed to recover from the shoulder injury he suffered during the semi-final against South Africa. The pacer suffered a shoulder injury as he was trying to take a catch while fielding at long on.

Mitchell Santner said during the press conference that Henry would have a fitness test on Saturday before the game. On Sunday, Henry was seen trying to bowl just before the game and was in visible discomfort. Despite his best efforts, the pacer wasn’t given the green light to play the match.

This would leave Henry in tears as he made his way off the field. He was consoled by Gary Stead and bowling coach Jacob Oram as he made his way to the dressing room. You can see the full video below:

Henry was the highest wicket-taker in the ongoing tournament with 10 ahead of the final and was crucial for New Zealand in their previous match against India in Dubai. The pacer picked up figures of 5 for 42 and claimed the wickets of Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya.

Henry was replaced by Nathan Smith in the game. Smith has played 7 matches and picked up as many wickets at an average of 41.71. He played in the first match of the Champions Trophy and got the wicket of Agha Salman.
