Pat Cummins was at his athletic best on Day 2 of the second Test against the West Indies at St George’s in Grenada, pulling off a spectacular catch to dismiss Keacy Carty. The Australian captain removed the West Indies number three batter for just six runs off 12 balls with a brilliant piece of fielding in his follow-through.

Carty inside-edged a delivery onto his pads, and the ball popped up to Cummins’ left. Reacting instantly, he sprinted forward, dived, and completed a sharp one-handed catch as he slid across the pitch. It was a standout display of reflexes and commitment from the skipper.

The West Indies were in early trouble, losing two wickets within the first 10 overs. However, Brandon King, playing only his second Test after debuting in Barbados, stepped up with a composed 75 off 108 balls to steady the innings.

Shai Hope and Roston Chase both made promising starts but failed to convert them, as Nathan Lyon dismantled the middle order with three important wickets. Despite the stutter, the lower order fought back. Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph added 27 and 29 runs respectively, helping the West Indies reach 253, just 33 runs short of Australia’s first-innings total.

In the final session, the West Indies struck early with the new ball. Jayden Seales removed both Sam Konstas and Usman Khawaja to put immediate pressure on the Australian top order.

Cummins will now be hoping for a stronger second-innings batting effort from his side as they aim to secure a series whitewash.

Steve Smith will be in the spotlight once again, as he looks to find form after his return from a finger injury sustained during the World Test Championship final against South Africa. He managed only three runs in the first innings before falling to Alzarri Joseph.

However, batting has not been easy on this surface, and the fast-bowling trio of Seales, Alzarri and Shamar Joseph could once again cause problems with pace and movement.
