SRH captain Pat Cummins has hinted that the team maybe looking to go away from their all-attack approach in the coming games after their thrashing at the hands of MI on Wednesday, April 23. Hyderabad, who made a name for themselves with their aggressive brand of cricket in 2024, has struggled to find their way in the ongoing campaign and sit in the 9th spot on the points table.
The loss to Mumbai saw their batting lineup fail again before being bailed out by Heinrich Klaasen and Abhinav Manohar. While SRH have been criticised for their approach in recent times, Cummins was someone who always backed it. Now, following the loss to MI, the SRH skipper said that they needed someone to steady the ship in the middle.
Cummins said that it is ok to build your innings by taking up a few deliveries and then going on the attack.
“Yeah, I mean, Abhinav and Klaasy (Klaasen) got us to a good total. But we just didn’t get going. You needed one guy to steady the ship but we kept losing wickets. We have spoken about it before the match. You can build your innings and if you take up balls, you are good enough to catch-up later. We are starting with none for two. You have to assess the pitch,” said Cummins.
‘It hasn’t worked out for us’
Cummins spoke about SRH experiencing the highs of scoring 286 in their first game and the low of not being able to matchup to those expectations in the matches after that. The SRH skipper admitted that the approach hasn’t worked for Hyderabad this season, and they will be aiming to assess each wicket in the remaining games.
Cummins feels that the team needs to look at each track and decide on a good total.
“I think the difference from the first game was we got 280 and the second game, we got out on a low total. That’s T20 cricket. It hasn’t worked out for us so far.”
“We have got a few away games now. It’s about assessing each wicket. Every wicket looks a bit different. Assess what total will be a good total and try to get there. Some of the discussions will be around that going forward,” said Cummins.
