Ensuring Tagore Theatre remains chock-a-block with artistes and art lovers, November would see the five-day Tri-City Theatre Festival. Announcing the same, Abhishek Sharma, director, Tagore Theatre invited entries from local theatre groups in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula along with a recording/videography of maximum two plays, latest by October 7. Sharing details, Sharma said, “Each selected group will be paid a remuneration of ~60,000 for the performances.”
It’s going to be the fifth edition of Tri-City Theatre Festival and is scheduled from November 5 to November 9. It’s going to be a ticketed festival, amounting to ~100 per seat. The amount collected from the sale of the ticket would go to the group performing. “We want to push the culture of ticketed shows. It’s a nominal amount but this can go a long way to make theatre viable.”
Sharma, who joined as the director last year has ambitious plans for city’s cultural point. A café figures on the list as does ambition to have Tagore Theatre be the meeting point for artistes – not just acto~but also script write~and technicians. “I have been fortunate to have been guided in the process by my predecesso~Chakresh bhai and Kuldeep Sharma ji,” shared Abhishek Sharma and also lauded role of assistant director Tagore Theatre Nihal Chand Dogra, “He comes from defense background and has been a huge help in administration work.”
The entry for the festival is open only for new plays (not performed in Chandigarh for last one year) and only by local theatre groups. The duration of the play must be minimum of an hour and thirty minutes. — TNS
