Puerto Rican reggaeton star Bad Bunny has endorsed Democratic presidential nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 US Presidential election on Sunday. He shared a video of Harris on his Instagram story with his 45 million Instagram followers.
In the video, Harris discusses the importance of the election for Puerto Ricans, saying, “there’s so much at stake in this election for Puerto Rican voters and for Puerto Rico.” She also expressed her commitment to support the island.
Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, pointed out another part of Harris’s message where she mentioned, “I will never forget what Donald Trump did and what he did not do when Puerto Rico needed a caring and a competent leader during Hurricane Maria.”
This endorsement comes after recent comments made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, who mocked Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage” at a Trump rally at Madison Square Garden, NYC on Sunday.
Bad Bunny has been vocal about Puerto Rico’s challenges. His songs “El Apagón” and “Una Velita” criticise the government’s response to Hurricane Maria, which resulted in nearly 3,000 deaths according to public health experts.
With a sizable Puerto Rican population in Pennsylvania, a key swing state, Bad Bunny’s endorsement is expected to increase Harris’s appeal, particularly among Latino voters—a group that Trump is also trying to win over.
Bad Bunny joins other Puerto Rican artists like Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez, and Marc Anthony, who have also shown support for Harris.
