Veteran actor-comedian Bindu Ghosh passes away at 76-OxBig News Network

Veteran Tamil actor Bindu Ghosh, best known for acting in comedy roles, passed away at the age of 76 at a hospital in Chennai on Sunday (March 16). The actor had been suffering from prolonged illness.

Born as Vimala, Bindu made her debut as a child artist in the 1960 film Kalathur Kannamma, co-starring a six-year-old Kamal Haasan in his debut. Her first acting credit as an adult came in 1982’s Kozhi Koovuthu, directed by Gangai Amaran in his debut.

Since then, Bindu has starred in several notable titles such as Mangamma Sabadham, Uruvangal Maaralam, Dowry Kalyanam, ThoongatheyThambi Thoongathey, Komberi Mookkan, and Needhiyin Nizhal among others.

Bindu was well-known for her comedy roles, most of which featured self-deprecating humour centred on her weight. Also known for her dancing, Bindu shared the screen alongside the likes of Kamal, Rajinikanth, Sivaji Ganesan, and Vijayakanth, and popular comedians like Manorama, Goundamani, and Senthil.

The news about Bindu’s death comes just a year after she spoke to a YouTube channel about her financial struggles amid deteriorating health.

Since the news about her death came out, fans and well-wishers have been expressing their condolences on social media. The last rites are set to take place today, Monday.
