Vikram Kapadia criticizes Dharma Productions, Yash Raj Films over less pay: ‘They have an ego’ | Hindi Movie News

Vikram Kapadia, who is known for his web series outings in shows like ‘The Night Manager’ and ‘Scam 1992’, recently spoke about the payment issues actors face in the Hindi cinema space. Even more specifically, he targeted the two majors. These include the Dharma Productions owned by Karan Johar and the Yash Raj Films led by Aditya Chopra. He stated that both of them are superiority complexes and always give lesser pay disguised as an opportunity to work.
Kapadia elaborated on this issue in his conversation with Bollywood Now, stating, “Yash Raj and Dharma have this ego that we are Yash Raj and Dharma so we will pay you a little less but you should be happy because we are paying you.” He insisted that these studios, even though they give them big roles and breaks, always undervalue the contribution of the artist.
Significantly, he admitted that Yash Raj Films paid him reasonably well for his writing work but hinted at the underlying attitude being an antidote to those who may feel that they are not valued well enough as actors.
The debate comes in the wake of Karan Johar speaking on the escalating fee of actors that, he claims, puts tremendous financial pressure on producers. The latest film from Karan Johar, ‘Jigra’, is reportedly collecting very badly at the box office. The movie was directed by Vasan Bala starring Alia Bhatt in the lead.
