Virat Kohli said that batters need to be smart in their approach as pitches in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 aren’t batting paradises. On Sunday, April 27, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) beat Delhi Capitals (DC) by six wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Kohli got to his half-century off 45 balls, eventually scoring 51 runs off 47 balls, laced with four fours. On the back of his knock, RCB chased down the target of 163 with nine balls to spare. He also had words of praise for Krunal Pandya, who made an unbeaten 73 off 47 balls, laced with five fours and four sixes.

“It was a top win, especially looking at the surface. This wicket played very differently compared to the other games. Whenever there is a chase on, I keep checking with the dugout if we are on course, what my role is, etc. Krunal — today was his day. We were waiting for him to come into the tournament with the bat,” Kohli said after the match.

‘Assess and understand’

RCB found themselves in early trouble after being reduced to 26 for three in four overs. But Kohli and Krunal’s 119-run stand for the fourth wicket bailed them out. Kohli said that he had to assess the conditions and understand the opposition bowling before going for the big shots.

“I think about which bowlers to target. I try to ensure I don’t stop my singles and doubles, and I combine them with the occasional boundary. This year, you can’t just come out and hit — you have to assess, understand the conditions, and plan accordingly,” Kohli added.

With the win, RCB not only reclaimed their top spot, but also became the first team in the history of the IPL to win six away matches in a row.

RCB’s next match is against MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 3 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
