London: Voting for the general election began in Britain on Thursday, in which millions of people are expected to exercise their franchise. This election will decide the political future of Prime Minister and Conservative Party leader Rishi Sunak (44). Sunak is in the main competition with Keir Starmer of the Labour Party. Sunak has urged voters not to give a “majority” to the “tax-raising” Labour Party.

In the UK general election, candidates have been fielded for 650 constituencies in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The main contest is between Rishi Sunak’s Conservatives and the main opposition leader Keir Starmer’s Labour Party. Voting will be held till 10 pm
Around 40,000 polling stations opened at 7 am local time and about 4 crore 65 lakh voters will be able to choose the candidate of their choice. This time it is mandatory to carry identity card to the polling station. Voting will end at 10 pm local time, after which surveys will start coming. The surveys will give a glimpse of what the political scenario in the country is going to be like.
Rishi Sunak appeals to voters
Rishi Sunak on Wednesday appealed to the people to vote in his favour. He said on social media, “This is what unites us. We have to prevent a Labour Party majority government from being formed which will increase taxes on you. The only way to do this is to vote for the Conservative Party.” In the 2019 general election in the country, the Conservative Party won 365 seats while the Labour Party won 202 seats.
