India and Mumbai Indians (MI) fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has begun bowling in the nets at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Bumrah has been out of action since the fifth Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 played in Sydney. The speedster was also ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and hasn’t returned to action yet.

Even the Indian Premier League (IPL) team Mumbai Indians are sweating over Bumrah’s return as they’ve lost their first two matches of the IPL 2025 so far. Much to their good fortune, the fast bowler has begun bowling in the nets and is slowly progressing to full fitness. In a viral video, Bumrah was seen bowling in the nets with full intensity, sparking hopes of his quick return.

Recently, MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene gave an update on Bumrah’s fitness and revealed that he’s been going through his daily programs. The speedster has made good progress so far in his recovery. However, there’s no fixed timeline given on his return by the medical staff at the Centre of Excellence.

Bumrah was expected to be fit for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and was even named in the squad. However, he was replaced by Harshit Rana as the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) decided not to rush him into action. His services will be required by India as they begin their next cycle of the World Test Championship (WTC) in England starting from June 20.

The speedster will be expected to bowl India to their first Test series win in England since 2007. Before being injured, Bumrah had a phenomenal 2024 as he bowled India to victory in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and was the highest wicket-taker of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 with 32 wickets to his name. As a result, he was bestowed with the prestigious ICC Cricketer of the Year and ICC Test Cricketer of the Year awards.
