When Dimple Kapadia slapped Twinkle Khanna on face for dropping sister Rinke unintentionally: ‘Mom did not love me…’ | Hindi Movie News

Twinkle Khanna, daughter of celebrated Bollywood legends Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia, once spoke about her life in a family of big stars and how she would wait for her parents to come home after filming. The well-known author also shared how a playtime moment with her sister, Rinke Khanna, once went wrong and led to her being punished.
In an old interview with Rediff in 1999, Twinkle opened up about her early life growing up in the limelight. She reflected on her childhood curiosity and confusion about what her parents actually did on set. As a young teenager, she would eagerly wait for them to return home from shoots, often craving affection and attention. Sharing her reflections, she said:
“Now I know what it feels like to be there. You always want to be cuddled and fondled when you are a kid. You hate being yelled at and slapped. But when you get a smack, everything changes. It makes you aware of reality,” she shared.
Twinkle also recounted an incident from her childhood involving her younger sister, Rinke Khanna—fondly called Chinky. In her memory, what began as a playful moment ended in tears when she accidentally dropped her baby sister on the bed, leading to a stern reaction from their mother.
“When it came to handling Chinky — or Rinke, my kid sister — I was very protective. I used to carry her in my arms. But sometimes, I used to toss her up in the air and then catch her. Once, I was suddenly distracted when I threw her up, and she fell down with a thud. Even though she fell on the bed, Mummy was aghast and slapped me across the face. Initially, I cried a lot because I felt that Mum didn’t love me, but then I realised the truth after a few hours and apologised…” she added.
Twinkle also recalled how she reacted unexpectedly to a moment of on-stage embarrassment involving Shadab Khan, son of actor Amjad Khan, when she was in school. She had been selected to play an Arabian princess with a veil. Both Rajesh and Dimple were present to watch the show.

“I was very tense. Suddenly, my veil slid off my head. Even as I was trying to bend sideways and pick it up, Shadab Khan came in from the wings, picked up the veil, and put it back on my head. People found it amusing that a boy could actually come up on stage to do that. I was embarrassed and punched him on the nose after the play,” she stated.
Twinkle revealed that she grew up under constant pressure to excel. Even when she performed well academically, her achievements were met with muted responses at home.
